With our products, ship crews can collect reliable vessel data on the job, while our AI-powered analysis generates actionable insights for technical teams onshore. These insights help predict incidents, reduce downtime, and enhance safety and efficiency, empowering shipping companies to operate at their best.

At Kaiko Systems, we’re not just building technology — we’re delivering solutions that make a real difference in people’s work lives and their professional environment. Join us as we navigate the future of maritime together.

Your mission
As a Maritime Expert – Product Team Support, you will bring your extensive maritime knowledge and hands-on experience to Kaiko Systems’ product development processes. Acting as the voice of the end-user, you will provide subject matter expertise and technical insights, ensuring our solutions are practical, relevant, and impactful. Your role will be instrumental in shaping and refining products that resonate with maritime professionals and deliver tangible value to the industry. We’re ideally seeking someone located in northern Germany / Europe, making it convenient to visit our Berlin team regularly.

Your skillset to navigate success:

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Provide deep insights into shipboard operations, technical workflows, safety protocols, and compliance requirements to guide product development. Act as the in-house expert for maritime standards, regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code), and industry best practices.
  • Product Development Support: Collaborate with the product team to define and validate product features, ensuring alignment with maritime industry needs. Review technical specifications, user stories, and wireframes, offering feedback to improve usability and functionality.
  • User-Centric Design Input: Advocate for the end-user by sharing operational challenges, pain points, and practical constraints faced by seafarers, superintendents, and operators. Participate in user research activities, such as interviews and surveys, to gather insights for product refinement.
  • Testing and Validation: Support the testing process by validating features against real-world scenarios and operational requirements. Identify potential gaps or inconsistencies in product performance and recommend actionable improvements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, design, and customer success teams to ensure products meet high technical and operational standards. Act as a liaison between the product team and external stakeholders, such as maritime professionals, for feedback and insights.
  • Knowledge Sharing and Training: Develop and maintain documentation, such as technical guides and industry insights, to support product development and team understanding. Conduct training sessions for internal teams to enhance their understanding of maritime operations and technologies.
Your profile
  • Professional Background: Experience as an ex-seafarer  is mandatory (e.g., Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, or Master), technical/maritime superintendent, or professional in a maritime technology company. Deep understanding of shipboard operations, technical management, and safety protocols.
  • Education: Relevant maritime or engineering qualification (e.g., Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, or similar).
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with fleet management systems, maintenance workflows, and industry regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM). Knowledge of digital technologies and their application in the maritime domain is an advantage.
  • Product Support Skills: Ability to translate complex maritime concepts into actionable insights for product development. Strong analytical mindset to assess how product features align with operational realities.
  • Soft Skills: Problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for product improvement. Adaptability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Technology Savvy: Familiarity with SaaS platforms, digital tools, and modern product development workflows is a plus.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. Clear and concise communication style for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Worried you don’t check every box? If this role excites you, but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be exactly what we’re looking for — either for this role or another one!
